Her work has been featured in such prominent publications as Southwest Art, Persimmon Hill and The Crafts Report. Books, including Craft in America, which documented and celebrated The Year of American Craft in 1993, Saddles, Bits and Spurs (1992) and Saddle Making in Wyoming (University of Wyoming exhibit and catalog, 1993) have also carried examples of her work, most notably her Ladies' Astride Saddle. This version of the turn-of-the -century saddle, which combined features from English saddles with working western stock saddles, toured selected western states as part of the Third Wyoming Biennial of 1986; the Biennial showcased Wyoming's twelve most outstanding Artists. The Ladies' Astride was also awarded Best Artist in Leather at the 1998 Western Designs Conference in Cody, Wyoming. Much of Verlane's work is influenced by historical examples inspired by her extensive research in museums, books, and old saddlery catalogs. |
